New

“Apple’s focus on the xrOS operating system — along with iOS 16 snags — has also cost it some new features in iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, the next major iPhone and iPad software updates.”

New

“That software, codenamed Dawn, may have fewer major changes than originally planned. The same goes for macOS 14, which is codenamed Sunburst.“

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the Chief Correspondent on Apple for Bloomberg News, not much seems to be changed with iOS 17 than the original plan. It seems to be reliable based on his previous predictions.

Well, while Apple has yet to officially announce the release of iOS 17, there is already speculation about what new features and updates users can expect. In this article, we'll take a look at some of the rumors and expectations for iOS 17. Also, some Inside information from those involved.

iOS 17 Features Update

1.AR Improvements:

This update is probably the most talked about and the most disruptive change in the 17th generation of iOS. Suggested that Apple may be working on a New AR Headset that would work in conjunction with iOS devices, including iPhones and iPads. This headset could potentially offer advanced AR features, such as 3D mapping and tracking, that go beyond what is currently available on mobile devices.

Also, iOS 17 may include new AR tools for developers, such as a new AR software development kit (SDK) that would make it easier to create AR experiences. This SDK could potentially include features like improved object tracking, better lighting and shadow effects, and support for more complex 3D models.

There have also been rumors that iOS 17 may include new AR apps and experiences, such as an AR-powered shopping app that would allow users to try on virtual clothing before making a purchase. Additionally, there have been reports that Apple may be working on an AR-powered navigation app that would provide users with directions and information about their surroundings in real-time. Well, for this, it doesn't sound particularly reliable. But I think it will probably be implemented in the later generation of iOS, iOS 18 or more.

2.Sideloading and Alternate App Stores

At the moment, Apple does not allow sideloading of apps or the use of alternate app stores on iOS devices. All apps on the App Store are subject to strict review and approval processes by Apple to ensure that they meet the company's guidelines for quality, security, and privacy.

However, there have been many debates about whether Apple should allow sideloading and alternate app stores on iOS devices. Advocates of this idea argue that it would provide users with more freedom and choice, as well as promote competition in the app marketplace.

It's worth noting that Apple has previously taken a strong stance against sideloading and alternate app stores, with CEO Tim Cook saying that they would "destroy the security of the iPhone." And opponents of sideloading and alternate app stores argue that it could lead to security risks and malware infections, as users would be able to download apps that have not gone through the rigorous review process required by Apple. Additionally, they argue that allowing alternate app stores could fragment the app marketplace and make it more difficult for developers to reach their audiences.

Nevertheless, it is very likely to need to allow sideloading or the alternate App store before 2024 in response to European legislation requirements. At least, it may be subject to some adjustments or changes.

3.UI Redesign

According to various rumors and leaks, iOS 17 may bring a significant overhaul to the home screen, with redesigned widgets and customization options. The new widgets are said to be more interactive and dynamic, allowing users to access more information at a glance.

One rumor suggests that Apple may be introducing a new feature called "Glances," which would allow users to access key information from various apps without having to open them. This feature is expected to be similar to the Glances feature that was available on the Apple Watch.

There are also rumors that iOS 17 may include a new "App Library" that organizes apps into categories automatically. This would make it easier for users to find and access their apps, especially if they have many apps installed on their devices.

In addition to these changes, there have been rumors that Apple may be introducing new customization options for the home screen. This could include the ability to change the size of app icons, as well as the ability to choose different themes or color schemes.

Overall, the rumored iOS 17 UI redesign seems to be focused on making the home screen more customizable and personalized, with improved widgets and easier access to key information. Of course, until Apple makes an official announcement, we can't be sure exactly what changes will be included in the final release of iOS 17.

Also, the design for the dynamic island would be perfected probably.

iOS 17 Release Date

Many people are watching to see when is ios 17 coming out. Well, based on Apple's previous WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) schedules, which took place during the first or second week of June, it's likely that we will get some information about iOS 17 at WWDC 2023.

At WWDC 2022, Apple unveiled iOS 15, which introduced several new features such as Focus mode, redesigned notifications, and improvements to FaceTime and Maps. It's possible that at WWDC 2023, Apple could reveal new features for iOS 17, as well as improvements to existing features.

It's likely that iOS 17 will follow this pattern, with an iOS 17 beta version after the WWDC announcement. And the official version is expected to be released in the fall of 2023, usually during September.

iOS 17 Supported Devices List

Based on Apple's previous release patterns, it's likely that iOS 17 will be compatible with a range of devices, including newer models as well as some older ones.

Here is a list of devices that are currently compatible with iOS 16:

  • iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone X, iPhone XR,
  • iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation)

It's possible that some of these devices may not be compatible with iOS 17, depending on their hardware capabilities and other factors.

iPhone 8 (and its variants) might drop support in iOS 17, just like iOS 16 dropped support for iPhone 7. Even if it doesn't, the stability may be a bit lacking. But it is basically certain that the version above iPhone X will be supported.

Final words

Overall, it seems that iOS 17 is expected to be a significant update to Apple's mobile operating system, with potential improvements in design, AR support and more. However, until Apple makes an official announcement, all of these rumors and speculation should be taken with a grain of salt.
