If you are the one who have these questions just like mentioned above, then you can get all the answers here.

1. What is the Difference between the Flu and Coronavirus?

Some people said that the symptoms of flu are very similar to Covid-19, so how can we distinguish the two? Here we listed all out.

differences between flu and coronavirus

Here is the basic information of Flu, including the symptoms, treatment and prevention.

  • It is an acute respiratory infection.

  • It is caused by influenza virus.

  • Influenza viruses are enveloped RNA viruses.

  • Nose, throat and sometimes lungs can be infected by influenza.

  • It is also known as seasonal influenza.

  • It has four types named as, Influenza A, Influenza B, Influenza C,

  • Influenza D viruses.

  • Sign And Symptoms : Sudden onset of fever, cough(usually dry), headache, muscle and joint pain, sore throat, fatigue, and runny nose.

  • It is not necessary for every infected person to have fever.

  • It can cause mild to severe illness.

  • In some cases, people may suffer diarrhea and vomiting.

  • It can last for 2-4 days, in some cases two or more weeks and in chronic conditions may lead to death.

  • All age groups get affected, but most people such as pregnant women, children under age 59 months, people with weakened immunity , and people with immune-suppressive conditions(HIV/AIDS)are at higher risk.

  • Transmission occurs quickly from one ill person to another.

  • If a patient with flu coughs or sneezes in front of a normal person then droplets of patients coughing can cause flu to normal person.

  • It is also possible for a person to get affected by the virus by touching the objects or surfaces which have a virus about it.

  • People can protect their selves by getting a flu vaccine every year which helps to reduce flu-related problems and serious complications.

  • It is also recommended to stay away from the people who are ill and don't share food with them.

  • Its Complications can also include pneumonia, sinus infections and ear infections.

Now, let's have a look about the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

  • It is a large family of viruses.

  • Coronaviruses are Single-Stranded RNA viruses.

  • It causes illness ranging from the common cold to severe diseases such as SEVERE ACUTE RESPIRATORY SYNDROME(SARS)

  • In this type of virus, symptoms can appear from 1-14 days after exposure to the virus.

  • It is a new strain, discovered in December 2019 and has not been previously identified in humans or animals.

  • Its signs include respiratory symptoms, fever, dry cough, shortness of breath such as breathing difficulties

  • In severe conditions, it causes pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS), kidney problems, and even death.

  • It can quickly spread through coughing and sneezing.

  • There is currently no vaccine in order to prevent people from getting Covid-19.

  • Unfortunately there is no proper medicine too to treat COVID-19.

2. How to Take Correct Precautions?

Correct precautions can be taken which are told by WHO , are given below:

  •  With alcohol-based hand sanitizers or with soap and water, wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds.

  • As washing your hands with soap or alcohol-based hand rubs kills the virus by destroying its lipid layer cover.

  • Surfaces such as kitchen tables, chairs, and desk regularly clean them with a disinfectant because there might be virus on them.

  • Teach yourself and others about new Coronavirus COVID-19 pneumonia.

  • Avoid traveling during fever or cough. If you get sick during flight, inform the flight crew as soon as possible. After returning home, contact with medical and health personnel near your home.

  • Cover a cough or sneeze with your sleeves or use a tissue paper. After using the tissues immediately throw them into close trash and wash your hands properly.

  • People over age 60 years or with underlying diseases such as cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease(SARS etc.) and diabetes may be at higher risk of severe illness after getting an infection with new Coronavirus (COVID-19).

  • People should take extra precautions, such as avoiding crowded places or places where interaction with other people is more.

  • If you feel unwell you should stay at home, call your doctor or local health care provider who will ask about your symptoms, where you have been, and who you have been in contact with. This will help to get the right advice or follow directions to the right health care facility and also help to prevent infection.

  • In the case of shortness of breath, seek medical advice as soon as possible.

  • Please find out what your community is doing and discuss how to ensure safety in your workplace, school etc.

  •  Don't touch your nose, eyes and mouth if your hands are not clean because hands touch many surfaces and can pick the virus up.

  • Maintain social distancing. Stay at least 1 meter away from the one who is coughing or sneezing because droplets which are coming from their nose or mouth can contain virus in them which will immediately catch you if you are near them.

3. How To Select The Correct And Adequate Protective Supplies

As for the choice of mask, it depends on your own situation and the surrounding situation. If there are infected patients at your community or even you are doctors or nurses, then it's necessary to choose N95 masks. And, if you will not have close contact with patients and there are no coronavirus onfected person around your town and community, then surgical masks is enough.

Differences of  the two types of masks:

Nowadays, surgical masks are in demand. A surgical mask is a disposable medical device that can be bought from a pharmacy. It protects against chronic infectious agents transmitted by "DROPLETS". These droplets may include droplets of saliva or secretions from the upper respiratory tract when a wearer exhales.

A N95 respirator is personal protective equipment. It prevents the person from inhaling aerosols( dust, smoke, mist) as well as vapors or gases(disinfectants, anesthetic gases) that are main health hazards. It protects the person from airborne infectious agents. Ie.against contamination by a virus such as SARS, COVID-19, etc.

For Medical Alcohol Choosing:

There are two main types of hand sanitizer:

  • Alcohol Based

  • Alcohol-Free

Alcohol based sanitizer contain alcohol often between 60% and 95%. Alcohol is used to kill many germs.

Alcohol-free sanitizer contains quaternary ammonium compounds but is less effective as compare to alcohol-based sanitizers.
